Making Movies
The opening band, Making Movies, tooks its name from a Dire Straits album, but its sound is closer to Los Lobos. Formed in 2007, the Latin alternative rock band from Kansas City has made a quick rise. Their music was featured on AOL Musica and NPR Weekend Edition, and they've toured with Grammy-winning Columbian rockers Aterciopelados. Their upbeat bilingual music combines Latin rock with traditional salsa and Afro-Cuban rhythms to create a unique sound.
Sister Hazel
Formed in 1993 in Gainesville, Florida, Sister Hazel combines elements of acoustic and southern rock, folk, pop, and classic rock 'n' roll. The band released its debut album, Sister Hazel, in 1994. It moved to a major label for its second album in 1997, Somewhere More Familiar, which gained platinum status. A single from the album, "All For You," hit #11 on the Billboard Hot 100 and remains the band's most successful single. With eight albums to its credit, Sister Hazel's most recent release was Heartland Highway (2010). The band's music has been featured in several popular movies and soundtracks and the television show, Scrubs.
